Suresh, if Swami Satyananda was your brother, then it is a very traumatizing heritage for all of you. Makes sense to avoid the promises of RELIGIONS and GURUS and concentrate on our INNER VOICE to connect to the HIGHER SOURCE. Hope you can heal the wounds and fix the broken chain.

Drinking is one of the five horrible sins. However, a naturally controlled quantity of alcohol is constantly supplied to the body, through fermentation of food items. This means, consumption of alcohol in a limited amount, is good for health, that’s why, God has arranged supply of alcohol in limited quantity through various food items humans consume. The point here is that if you start taking extra alcohol then slowly its intake becomes uncontrollable. Therefore, we see several cases of alcohol addiction. Some doctors say alcohol damages the liver and leads to the end of life. That’s why scripture says that one should not drink (na suraam pibet).

Dear Suresh, I can see and I understand how the failure of your brother affected you. It is very sad to see that your brother ended in that situation. I believe that his situation was a personal thing that cannot be generalized. Who initiated your brother into that “sannyasin life”? I understand your attachment for your brother has brought you to perhaps think emotionally about this matter.
I am not from India but I lived there with my teacher after being a hippie of the 70’s but my experience was very different then your brother. This sannyasin life has given me the strength to live with a sense of balance in the middle of a society that is passing through big difficulties at present. In fact, I find myself being useful to many people who are hiding themselves into escapism from facing their own minds.
The use of drugs and alcohol are equally a way for people to escape from their suffering and frustrations of life. The matter is that suffering and frustrations are our own creation and we cannot blame a tradition because of our failure. With all my respect to the memory of your brother, I think that yes, his initiation into sannyasin life was not to make him a sannyasin immediately, but to give to him the keys how to develop his life, which was his personal responsibility. Now, I don’t know and it is difficult to know exactly even for you, which was the motivation who brought your brother to embrace the sadhu life.
In India I came across many so called “sadhus” who were hiding behind the orange cloths their incapacity to live a proper life in the society. I met many of them who in the name of Shiva where going very hard with the chillum and alcohol. I am responsible for my own life, but if I become weak and start failing to my principles that does not have anything to do with the well-respected sannyasa tradition which has produced great people in India, like Swami Vivekananda and many others. My experience is different, my sannyasa training is the foundation of my fruitful life at present. As a human I have made mistakes but I took these mistakes as an experience that brought me to go beyond these mistakes.
I pray for the soul of who was your brother in this life time. I am sure that life will give to that soul the opportunity to continue with this journey of evolution. I don’t judge his life because I strongly believe that anything that happens in our life is an opportunity for growth and evolution. Peace be with you.

Dear Suresh, Swami Satyananda was therefore your brother...I am sorry that such a man had known such a sad fate. He deserved recognition and fame. Unfortunately, his writings were not as successful as they should have. His meditations had led him to true wisdom and they could have allowed him to get a real knowledge of Life and the Universe, if he had not plunged body and soul into the hell of drugs. This is very sad. I congratulate you for your research, and for the restoration and dissemination of the writings of Swami Satyananda. You are doing a remarkable work. Bravo. As Swami Satyananda's writings are not available for online translation, I cannot read and analyze them. Please believe that I regret it.

I am totally against drugs. Drugs make your mind blank and many feel that they had a spiritual experience, but in reality, it is not. People take drugs because they are not able to experience the state of ‘Dhayaan’ otherwise. Anyone who experience the state of dhayaan will never go for drugs. Hippies went for drugs, LSD and experienced high and many people started talking about drugs. Drugs make one dull and they think they experience in state, it is cheating oneself. Go ahead with the website and launch the movement against drugs.

I was surprised to note that Swami Satyananda was your brother. After reading his brief biography. I think, yet another great soul disappeared before realizing his full potential. Now I realize how important it is to have a "Self-Discipline" in our life. May his soul rest in peace.

The story of Swami Satyanand is very touching, and lot of things are there for us to learn,
indeed. Maya of the mind or mind of the Maya will always follow us till the end of mind. Yes,
end of mind means, the end of Maya. Even a highly spiritual person may be confused at very certain points, and can be a victim on way to the path of realization, before reaching to the ultimate bliss.

Keeping focused on one's Inner Self certainly requires discipline as the allure of the carnal world is all too tempting. In my opinion, drugs aren't the way to experience the bliss of Divine Existence instead, consistently abiding Within, resting in Consciousness, naturally brings with it the eternal peace we are all seeking.

Swami Satyanand’s real-life story is poignant, but then, in reality, it’s a universal story, which depicts an ordinary man’s struggle to free himself from all the restraints of a monotonous routine life, which leads to a tedious path of self-discovery to attain moksha, and again he finds himself stuck in the same grind. The narrative of the trials and travails of success and failure on this path are unmistakably right for making a cinematic blockbuster. Copyright it.

I found my salvation and redemption in Lord Jesus. "What you sow so shall you reap’ is equated to the karma theory…and finally I do not judge anyone as long as one is inclined toward the senses. Desire is the root cause of all evil. This is all I can say.

What is the message your work is delivering from this character and his story? Well, Swami Satyananda was ambitious as he wanted to restore ‘Vedic Knowledge' and 'Culture' as an integral part of India’s mainstream. How was it possible when he failed to attain the enlightenment and follow the Vedic traditional approach?
Both materialism and religions are manmade concepts. The basic proposition of these two categories pertains to the nature of reality. According to philosophical materialism, mind and consciousness are by-products, without which they cannot exist. This concept directly contrasts with idealism, where mind and consciousness are first-order realities to which matter is subject and material interactions are secondary. The materialistic Cārvāka philosophy appears to have died out some time after 1400; when Madhavacharya compiled Sarva-darśana-samgraha (a digest of all philosophies) in the 14th century. Post-Vedic tradition regards the peculiar class of divine humans who have often renounced the world, and are variously called gurus, sadhus, rishis, swamis and other name. Hence imperative for surfacing his concrete contribution to the society at large. Must care this in your highlights.

I noticed what you look forward from friends like me is an assessment of the life of your brother, who was lucky to shift through different paths of life, including a period of 'Sanyasa'.
I think nature or Existence was very, very excited about him, as he showed all prospects of turning into realising her fully. I observe that Existence is far from what religions usually imagine (an Almighty God, who seeks his intelligent creations to turn his devotees, do gooders, worshippers etc.) and also Science usually proves her essence, as a dump, mute material phenomenon.
The following attempt might explain my findings on what could be Existence: http://thewhyquestionofexistenceanswered.blogspot.com/2019/08/has-life-any-meaning-and-sense-why-life.html?m=1
Looking at that way, your brother seems to have been a favourite entity for Existence. She must have kept much hope on his turning an intelligent, open specimen, who was very potential of realising himself & Existence too.
Kindly keep track on him. Spirituality need to be very seriously rethought. Case of Science is much more hopeless than religions. These two belief systems are blocking the way of human knowledge progress. Only hope is ppl like your brother: don't know where and at what stage he is now.

I did not have the good fortune of meeting Swami Satyananda Ji; so, whatever little I know is through his brother Soni Ji and the book by Swami Ji that he sent me.
Going through the pages, the impression I get is one of a ' Genuine Seeker ' , at the same time a ' Daredevil ' , if I can use the word, who was so determined to realize the Divine and would do anything to do so.
We may judge him negatively for resorting to drugs etc. so, I will not touch that aspect.
I would rather focus on his spiritual journey and his thoughts, which are the thoughts of a seeker, a jijnasu.
It’s a pity that this episode of life ended so abruptly for him. But, as declared by Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita, no effort goes in vain.
I choose to believe that he is already reborn somewhere to take up his search from where he left. Kudos...
I must also thank Soni for making available the life and works of Swami Ji as a guide, a reminder to all seekers on the path, so they may learn from his life and be more alert while treading the path.

Swami Satyananda’s life story reveals his search for a meaningful way of life. This search takes him through many situations of the harsh reality of worldly life, consequently, there is self-revulsion, and eventually he becomes an ascetic to discover the secrets of life.
The book ‘Revival’ expresses his profound spiritual thoughts. But somehow, he didn’t find contentment he was looking for, so he experimented with drugs. In the wheel of life, one experiences various ups and downs. Therefore, his life cannot be judged. I think he lived an absorbing lifespan.

I have gone through about Swami Satyananda in brief and from that, I would first give you deep condolences. Spirituality should be everyone’s way, but there is no shortcut on this path. One has to go through a process and no drug or psychedelic can lead to nirvana or moksha. 'Sanyasis' has always been a fancy term, many of us have thought to choose a path of being a sanyasi and go into spirituality so that they can end their responsibility but it is just the opposite. Sanyasi has even the highest of responsibility. Only he can show the path of enlightenment to others and if he fails, the whole system fails. Also, one needs to figure out what is right and wrong when it is come to join any cult. One needs to remember that goal is not to join any cult and settle but to break all conditioning patterns and get enlighten. A true Guru or master always shows the right path and not take you backward. In the end would say, the life of drug addicts is less but he can come back at any point and as a society, we should not look down at this brave step instead embrace it.

Yes, a tragic story indeed. I'm not against Cannabis as such, and don't really see it as a drug either. In the Netherlands it is not forbidden and I have seen more people helped by it that by traditional drugs for cancer treatment or Parkinson’s or other serious diseases. It's all about how and why you use it. Hard drugs are something else since they have a chemical component to them that I think can be really harmful. But I believe that anything can become a drug and harmful if we allow it to. Even food. We only have to look around us to see how many people are obese or unhealthy because they crave unhealthy food or drinks. Or they eat or drink stuff to fill a void in their life.
The biggest lesson in this story is that most of us seek to have a meaningful life and to make a positive difference in the world. And because we all have different talents and strengths, the impact we make in the world will be different from anyone else. The sooner we learn what makes us unique and what our unique gifts are - and use them to create a meaningful life for ourselves, the better.
I therefore always encourage people to discover their uniqueness, embrace it and develop it and then to surround themselves with people and organizations that will celebrate them not just tolerate them, because that is where they can have the most impact. Without experiencing a meaningful life where we make a difference, we feel empty and that is when some people start filling that void with food or alcohol or other forms of drugs. Wishing you and everyone in your family love and healing.

An interesting story, tragic and filled with all the loss of great potential. No doubt the world is better with 1000's of Satyanandas than without. If just a small percentage of them were to fulfil all the possibilities of that potential, the space we live in would be a different one indeed, a world filled with what is now only dreamed...I have downloaded 'Revival' Part I and will respond fully upon reading.

I was just as excited to read Swami Satyananda's introductory words to his book titled “Revival, Volume 1” as I was to read the remarks of Swami Guneswardas, Swami Damodar Das, and indeed Satyananda’s Prologue, which built up the scene for this remarkable work. Although I have not yet read the full work, nothing I have read in my skim through of it has dissuaded me from endorsing it wholeheartedly.
On page iv of his introduction Swami Satyananda mentions the “Pearl of Great Price”, which is coincidently also mentioned in the Bible’s “New Testament”, and by Mormons, and Christian Scientists – see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parable_of_the_Pearl etc. It refers to the unfolding of the “Holy Spirit” (or “Breath of God” which enlivens “us”), and to the “Realm of Heaven” (“God’s abode” - that which is above, below, around, within and without “us” mere mortals).
Wisely, Swami Satyananda commenced his dissertation asking a question “Who am I ?” and concludes “Om Tat Sat” – see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Om_Tat_Sat etc.
This book is replete with amazing singular quotes. They can be put together in practically any order, and still we can see the “common-sense” in them – from “a to z” (etc). There can be no doubt that this work can be used by Black, White, and Brindle, without fear or favour. I trust that when “Revival” is digitized, and translated into different languages, then common folk will be able to more easily bring such sentences into common language, and move this work of Love into common usage.
“Shanti” (peace, rest, calmness, tranquility, or bliss). “Nirguna” (the eternal, all-pervading and omnipresent divine consciousness without substance or form, which cannot be contained, limited, or expressed by mere words). These two words say much, but it is the humble works of our own hands and feet that we might achieve our greatest validation, through knowledge sought from within our own selves, kindly action, AND self-less loving (as above, so below; as without, so within). Content and contentment rise from this base understanding/realization. Mutually desired and kindly reciprocated interracial, intergenerational, interfaith, and interaction on a needs basis is the respectful platform proposed by those with kind hearts, kind thoughts, kind words, and kind deeds. Where that interaction leads to the building up of a balanced community, civilized society has a chance, to advance. To progress. And all of that is good. For those who have a kind heart, their kind mind will intuitively know, speak and act about what matters most: that complimenting comments complement each other, without expectation of reward.
Suresh It’s been a few years since I last used Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and the technology seems to have grown more complex. This took me a while. But it should get easier if you can produce high quality pictures of the text to convert. Otherwise, you could always employ a good touch typist, who should be able to beat the technology. Apparently, OCR can now translate into different languages too.
Following is a Word document, partly framed on my own attempt at OCR (Optical Character Recognition) from the picture images of pages of the book ‘Revival’ I have digitized 4 pages of part 1. I note that my reading of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, etc extracted these or very similar messages from diverse source materials; not all of them "Godly", but stemming from the universal "spirit" nevertheless.
Suresh, you could convert your voice to text via your mobile phone, and sending it to yourself on your computer. You may also be able to do this on your computer ? The result I received was much quicker than OCR, and more accurate too. The result will still need quite a bit of tweaking to show all the question marks, punctuation, and capitalization etc, but I think much easier.....
I’m told that restoration of Revival part 2 has started, efforts to obtain part 3, etc. are in progress.

This emotion which I feel for Nature’s perfection. This Love (with) which I bear the weak – the unfortunate. Must it end in nothing ? Shall I be denied the glory of sunrise and Sunset ? From the depths of my being, a voice will not be stilled: it repeats again and again – “Who am I ?” Little by little, thoughts recede. And I am plunged into the silence of Meditation. Into the Silence the Answer comes:-
The proof that I AM is that you are, for I AM ALL that is manifesting under diverse aspects. You live and move and have your being in Me; there is no other beside Me ! I AM the way, the Truth, the Life. I AM the nameless, birthless, deathless, changeless, ETERNAL ONE. I CANNOT BE DEFINED FOR I am infinite. Call me Spirit, Energy, god, or whatever you will, but know that I am that which permeates All. Know that I Am omnipresent, for there is nowhere where I AM not Omnipotent – for all power is mine. Omniscient, for all wisdom is Mine.
Through Lack of Spiritual discernment, you have separated yourself from Me, Which AM your source, your Life and Your very Being. You have isolated yourselves from your brothers, by labelling them with different races and creeds. This separation from your source and

Your “brother” is the root of your sorrows. For until you realise your divine heritage, and your Kinship with the other, happiness will elude you. This Divine Heritage of Pure Bliss is there for All. Within each lies the Supreme realm of Joy. This is your spiritual birthright. I have no favourites for All are in Me, for my Omnipresence is a shining Light of Truth. There is nothing to fear when I hold you in My Being.
Do you not fear Death ? I know it not. I AM eternal life. Your physical garment is discarded for the donning of a more beautiful one – for (as you should already know that) – the body is but the robe of Immortal Spirit. Wearing this robe, you undergo certain experiences which mould your character until you take hold of your Divine birth-right, and wander no more from your Heavenly Home.
You ask to see My face; turn your gaze wherever you wish, and I AM there wearing an Infinite variety of garments.
Ignorance has distorted the simplicity of Truth, and Clouded it with mysteries. You have placed me far from you in imagination. Is the raindrop different to the vast ocean; is the spark not one with the flame ? How then can life within you differ from Me – the source of All Life ? The sincere and pure in heart can perceive the hidden gem, give it back its lustre, rid it of the covering which ignorance has laid upon it, and let its beauty and truth pervade into a Universal Message, so that others in following this path may be led to the Altar of Truth. This jewel has many facets, but Love dominates and welds the parts into a whole.
Many seek this “Pearl of Great Price”, but like the oyster, they are unaware that they carry it within their own selves, They seek to gratify the Physical senses, until realization dawns upon them that the physical that they nurtured and pampered, must go. Wrongly identifying themselves with their bodies, they face the fear of parting with them – that which to the enlightened is but an expansion of life, is to the unenlightened the anguish he terms “death”.
Lack of discernment causes you to look upon others as different to you. But this is not so. Race is but a name for the outer skin. The inner is the same one Immortal Spirit. One Principle threads its way through the All. This thread is without beginning or end…. It is your true self, the only self there is. The I AM in All.

As the sunray is at one with the sun, so are you at one with Me.

Greetings, I admire your style of writing because I can relate to easily. I would like to read from you about the following points, I would describe it as best as I can:
Reading your points on the super consciousness helped me realize that God made us in his image from the inside, as you said our consciousness is the soul, I would like to you to talk about the similarities between the two, like how as the super consciousness is everywhere and everything, so we can say like parts of a whole, the something of nothing, we develop from the inside in the very same way,
I might be even trying to describe what I've read from you but didn't fully understand it, even though you were articulate. Even talk about similarities between us and nature and animals. How we develop as a spiritual being not as a given method to follow, rather as an appreciation.
My way of writing is obviously random, jumping between points, as I let it normally flow, I have an idea that I would like you to help me understand, other than the above mentioned, it's a request no need to take it as an order. Similarities or connection between philosophy, psychology and mythology.

As a married woman with two children, I fail to understand, why should one snap his ties that binds him to a young wife and one-year old son, and then leave home to become a Sanyasi (spiritual seeker). In this whole act, I see the pain of parting, deep suffering and unmitigable sadness. Just imagine the trouble the family must have faced in this pitiful situation. No doubt, spirituality is an important part of life and so is the family, I think, spirituality works well when living with your family rather than choosing to move from home to homelessness.

There is an element of heroism in Swami Satyanada’s life story, his extraordinary courage to pursue his own path bravely by defying all conventional norms, like his runaway marriage which was opposed by the parents of the girl he loved or his experiments with livelihood switching over from service to business or film making or his daring decision to leave behind the comforts of his home, young wife and son to live the rough and tough life of a wandering Sadhu in wilderness, what he got in return was an adventurous life the way he wanted to live. His life story gives the message that worldly life or spiritual life is not separate. Life is the same. May his soul rest in peace.
